How can I get a site domain name that is already taken?

There is a domain name that I really want to use, but it is already taken.

Is there some sort of waiting list for domains so that, if it were to become available, I could be next in line for it?

You can use an agent to attempt to purchase the domain, but there is no such thing as a “waiting line” for domain names.

Contact a large provider like godaddy.com and inquire about using an agent to purchase a domain name that is already in use. They will help you out.

Most domain sellers (e.g. GoDaddy.com) will allow you to register for a domain name in a “parking” type arrangement. However, I doubt you’d ever end up getting the domain in that situation. Another approach would be to instead go to a domain seller (e.g. Register.com), look up the domain name, and then look up the “whois” record. There will usually be an e-mail address for the owner there. You could send them an e-mail offering to buy the domain. I used this approach recently with a domain I wanted, and ended up getting it for 250 Euros (about $350). I offered up front that I couldn’t pay a lot, but the owner was not using the domain anyway, so he accepted my offer and transferred the domain to me. Most domain sellers (I use GoDaddy, as do most small domain owners) have a “transfer domain” feature for the seller to use to transfer the domain to you, and you can then paypal them the money. Good luck!

Contact the domain name owner and ask if they want to sell. For more help, send an email to e@culx.net
